About me
Hi, I’m Kim Hallwood — Founder and CEO of Hallwood Sustainability.
I partner with Canadian and global organizations across sectors and stages of maturity to bring clarity, confidence, and momentum to their sustainability journey. Whether you're advancing disclosure, activating a new strategy, or building internal capacity, I’ll meet you where you are— and help you lead with purpose, and deliver with impact.
For nearly two decades, I’ve been leading sustainability from the inside out — working directly with boards, executive teams, and cross-functional leaders to drive real, lasting impact.
My sustainability journey began in London, England, where I developed a passion for using the power of business to scale positive environmental and social impact. Early in my career, I advised organizations such as Virgin, Greenpeace, and the UK government on strategies, campaigns and greenwashing risk. Since then, I’ve worked in-house at some of the world’s largest financial institutions (Barclays, HSBC and RBC), building ESG programs from the ground up and responding to the complex realities of a rapidly evolving business and regulatory landscape.
As former Head of Sustainability and member of the Canada Executive Committee at HSBC Canada, I shaped global ESG strategy and led local execution, positioning the bank as a sustainable finance pioneer and one of Canada’s Best 50 Corporate Citizens for over a decade. I founded and chaired the bank’s first climate governance committee, mobilizing $9B in sustainable finance and launching first-to-market green products. I was also a member of HSBC’s Global Sustainability Executive Committee, supporting the design of climate risk policies, an inaugural climate transition plan, sustainable finance guidance, and an operating model that was adopted globally.
I’m proud to be recognized as one of WXN's Top 100 Most Powerful Women in Canada (2018), Business in Vancouver's most influential business leaders (2021-2023), and Canada's Clean50 Emerging Leaders (2016). I am an active alumni of the World Economic Forum’s Young Global Leaders community.
I hold an MBA (Distinction) and professional certifications from Harvard, Stanford, University of British Columbia, Responsible Investment Association and the Global Reporting Initiative.
Most importantly, I’m a mom of two wonderful, energetic boys. I enjoy spending time near the ocean, travelling to new places, and hiking with my dog on the North Shore mountains.
